Bubble-ology

Visitors to Mrs. Darden’s middle school class are likely to encounter a very different style of learning than they may be used to. Mrs. Darden is the Excel Program teacher for grades six through eight. Excel students enjoy participating in problem solving activities and are constantly chasing perfection.

The Excel class recently completed a unit in “Bubble-ology”. During the unit, the students compared and contrasted different solutions to determine which solution produced the best bubbles. They also added different amounts of glycerin to solutions to observe its effect upon bubble production and longevity. Also tested was Bernoulli's principle of lift: The higher the speed of a flowing liquid or gas, the lower the pressure. The students also applied the scientific method through observation, recording of data, etc.

Mrs. Darden seeks to constantly extend and enrich the learning experience of her students by challenging the Excel students to always strive for a higher level of excellence. Projects like “Bubble-ology” make learning fun while and challenging at the same time.

I am a student in the "Gifted" class. We have a lot of fun learning in this class. We are challenged mentally in this class. It may be hard but it is really fun!
